Triopetra is located on the southwest coast of Crete about 52 km south of Rethymnon-city and 13 km of Mount Siderotas. The place belonged and still belongs to the mountain people of Akoumia. The mountain dwellers used to build small huts there on the coast to have a place to stay during the olive harvest. Today most of the land is still owned.

Triopetra Beach is situated on the South shoreline of Crete, 32 miles (51.5 km) south of Rethymno and 8 miles southeast of the Akoumia village, at the base of the Siderotas mountain. Triopetra is accessible via car down the asphalted paths that begin either from Akoumia or Sachtouria. Continue on foot for about 5 minutes when almost at the beach.

Plakias to Triopetra. Plakias is another one of the best beaches in Crete and a great place to base yourself for exploring the surrounding beaches. From here, we were able to visit 8 different beaches less than 20 kilometers away. Rental Car - Driving from Plakias to Triopetra takes about 45-50 minutes.

From Rethymno, you can reach the area of Triopetra in just under an hour (48 km) You might also wish to combine your visit with a stop in nearby Preveli beach and the homonymous monastery. Moving west from Triopetra, you will come across the beaches of Ligres, Katsouni, Podare, Agia Foteini and Gialopotama, before reaching Preveli.The road travels inland, through various charming villages.

East of the small one is a Triopetra beach with sand and rocks, tavern and sunbeds as well. West of the 3 rocks is a 1km long beach with small pebbles: also called Triopetra (or Chatzi) - This is the one where you easily access the rock formations and this is the one I am focusing on in this article. How to get to Triopetra. From Rethymno town, follow the road to the southern village of Agia Galini. Turn left towards the village of Akoumia. Drive through the village Akoumia and then follow the only road (about 12km) to reach Triopetra beach. There are a few signs all along the road, but be careful in order not to lose your way.
