In 1997, the brewery opened its doors, where a range of abbey beers is brewed, all in the tradition of the former Val-Dieu monks. Val-Dieu Abbey is a former Cistercian monastery in Wallonia in the Berwinne valley near Aubel. In 1216 a small number of monks from Hocht Abbey in Lanaken, near Maastricht, settled in the uninhabited valley which formed the border between the Duchy of Limburg and the county of Dalhem; they called their settlement Vallis Dei ('Valley of God'). The abbey's original church was destroyed in 1287.

Welcome to Val-Dieu Abbey. Founded in 1216 by Cistercian monks, the abbey Notre-Dame du Val-Dieu is a heaven of peace in the heart of the land of Herve. It is situated in the centre of the Liège-Maastricht-Aachen triangle. Since the departure of the monks in 2001, the abbey undergoes a revival thanks to the "Christian Community of Val-Dieu".

Modern Ladispoli includes the site of the ancient Alsium at nearby Palo Laziale, the port of the Etruscan city of Cerveteri and later a Roman colony cited by Cicero . Alsium was destroyed in the 6th century AD, during the Gothic War, by the Ostrogoths led by Totila. Later a castle, named Palo, was built in the area: it was a fief of the Orsini.
